Mild Steel
Mild Steel is comprised of low amounts of carbon and iron. However, there are several other elements that are commonly present in small amounts, such as manganese, silicon, and copper. Trace amounts of other elements may also be present, but at quantities low enough to make no significant impact on the steel.
Mild steel, or low-carbon steel, maintains between a 0.05% and 0.25% carbon composition, with a percentage of manganese no higher than 0.4%. This combination of elements and their respective percentages present in mild steel provide for optimal machining and welding performance.
As a result of its composition and easy of deployment, mild steel is a common material in the construction, transport, and energy industries – as well as many others.
6061 Aluminum
6061 Aluminum is a medium-to-high strength, heat-treatable alloy comprised of aluminum, magnesium, silicon, iron, copper, chromium, zinc, manganese, and titanium. Used extensively in construction and manufacturing, 6061 aluminum is known for its strength, smooth surface finish, and corrosion resistance – all of which contribute to its popular use in yacht and utility boat construction.
Furthermore, 6061 aluminum is used across a wide cross section of other industries, such as optics, aerospace, electrical or hardware suppliers, and consumer goods. For example, 6061 aluminum is popular in the construction of bicycle frames, scuba tanks, camera lenses, electrical fittings, couplings, and valves. In addition, some variants of 6061 aluminum are commonly found manufactured as bridge decks and wide-span roofs on athletic or concert arenas.
